Reconciliation – Queen of Saints Cluster

Those who approach the sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation or Confession) obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion. (CCC:1422)

1st Reconciliation for Students (2nd Grade)

Children should have at least one year of formation prior to their preparation for Reconciliation. Our second graders prepare for Reconciliation in the fall. All second grade students in the Queen of Saints cluster will participate in the classes, the retreat, and reception of the sacrament together as one group. The parents and the child receiving the sacrament are required to attend three class sessions and one retreat. The classes prepare the student to understand the necessity of forgiveness of self and others and internalize the examination of the conscience. The retreat allows parents and children to deepen their understanding of the sacrament through hands-on learning. The goal for parents is to remind them about what the sacrament is, to remind them of their First Reconciliation, and it is our hope they can share their experience with their child. We encourage the whole family to participate and receive the sacrament on their child's special day. This helps ease the child knowing their parents, older siblings, and grandparents are also experiencing the sacrament with them. The dates and times for classes, retreat, and sacrament are announced via letter to parents of all registered second grade students in Faith Formation each fall.

Reconciliation/Confession for Adults

We offer the sacrament 30 minutes before the first mass each weekend (3:15-3:45 pm on Saturday and 7:15-7:45 am on Sunday) and anytime by appointment. You can call the cluster office at (319) 228-8131 or complete the online form.
