Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. (Genesis 2:22-24)

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)

Marriage is a covenant or partnership of life between a man and a woman, which is ordered to the well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and upbringing of children. When validly contracted between two baptized people, marriage is a sacrament (the Sacrament of Matrimony) (CCC: 1601)

The Queen of Saints Community says “Congratulation on your engagement!”

Your wedding day is a very important event for you as a couple.  Thought and time must be given to the planning of the ceremony and your spiritual journeying together to be joined as husband and wife. We look forward to sharing our pre-marriage process with you and your fiancé as you prepare for this Holy Sacrament.

Where do I begin? The couple planning to marry are to contact Fr. Jake Dunne at least six (6) months prior to the proposed date marriage to set the date with him.  Date reservations are made with Fr. Jake Dunne only.  The office cannot set dates.  You can also complete an online form by clicking here.  Fr. Jake will contact you at his earliest convenience.

Why can't the office set the date? The marrying couple will need to complete a form regarding their freedom of marriage.  This form is completed with Father at your first meeting.

What are the requirements to be married at one of the cluster parishes?  At least one of the parties must be a registered member in one of the parishes in our cluster.  If you need to register, contact the cluster office at (319) 228-8131, stop in the cluster office, or click on registration form to complete.

Father told us to sign up for Pre-Cana.  Where/How do we sign up for Pre-Cana? The link to Pre-Cana is https://www.dbqarch.org/offices/family-life/marriage-preparation-program/pre-cana.  It will list the locations and dates for you.  When you choose a location, click on it and then click on register.

We can not do any of the weekends for Pre-Cana. Is there something else? You can register for an Engaged-Encounter weekend at the following link: https://www.dbqarch.org/offices/family-life/marriage-preparation-program/engaged-encounter/.

We are remarrying.  Is there anything we should do?  Let Father know this is not your first marriage.  He will explain the Annulment process.  He may require a class for you and your fiancé.  The class is Two Become One.  To schedule a class, click on the link https://www.dbqarch.org/offices/family-life/marriage-preparation-program/remarriage-program/two-become-one-registration/.

Reminder: During the season of Lent, there can not be any marriage celebrations. The season of Lent is a time to focus on Christ in the wilderness during his 40 days fasting.
